High Field ESR Bridge installed in OSU's Institute for Materials Research

A TK team of Dr. Alisa Leavesley, Stuart Froud and Richard Wylde have finished an enjoyable few days in a cold (-5 C) Columbus, Ohio, installing a Quasi-Optical High Field ESR Bridge in OSU's Institute for Materials Research ... deep in their physics department.   mm-wave source power will come from a VDI multiplier chain and detection from an 1865-based InSb broadband detector, from QMC Instruments   Thanks to Dr. Denis Pelekhov and his colleagues for their hospitality.  We look forward to supporting this cutting-edge facility in 2019.

Power from Thomas Keating's roof

is now generating a significant fraction of the electricity we use to cut metal       it is fun to watch the rise and fall of the power the solar cells generate as the sun rises and falls. Here is a late September's day.... we are hoping for more - perhaps over 60 KW -  come mid-summer.     a short video of the panelx  from a DJI Spark drone...50 seconds odd .... can be seen at the bottom of the TK page here  

MWS QON delivered to AIRBUS UK

After an extensive testing programme at the Astrophysics Instrumentation Group in Cardiff University, the MetOP-SG MicroWave  Sounder's QON Engineering Qualification Model has been delivered to AIRBUS UK in Portsmouth for instrument level beam pattern measurement. A few images are below:             The Cardiff AIG spherical near-field range has produced these rather spendid pattern contours from 23 GHz up to 229 GHz, covering the full MWS bands       MWS is part of an ESA funded programme, with TK's customer being AIRBUS in the UK. VDI and Mt Fuji

Both components of the previous VDI and TK mountain teams were in Japan for the IRMMW-THz Conference in Nagoya and had the pleasure (!) of climbing Mt. Fuji in a storm with winds >50 km a hour.   So it was not surprising that we were all soaked through when we arrived at the summit:   Left to right...Lucy Wylde, Jeffrey Hesler, Tom Crowe and Richard Wylde.... Lucy had sensoble boots and dry feet.... the other not so lucky.   There is a Japanese proverb about climbing Mt. Fuji:   “He who climbs Mt. Nick Stone and HND

Congratulations to Nick Stone for passing his Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with a merit grade. Nick continues to be crucial part of TK's skilled work force by moving to and taking charge of our Wire EDM and CMM departments.

Component testing system delivered to European manufacturer of 78 GHz Car Radars

TK has delivered a turnkey Quasi-Optical scalar combined transmissometer/reflectometer to a major European manufacture of car radars. The system measures the performance - the transmission and reflection  - of a vital part of the car radar simultaneously, over the full waveguide E-band (60-90 GHz). A X6 multiplier and detectors are provide by VDI, while a 10-15 GHz Vaunix RF source drives the multiplier chain. Both detectors and the source are controlled by a TK-developed compiled LabVIEW application.       The manual for the sysyem can be downloaded here
